Star Sightings I Neglected To Mention...
Mr. Jerry Stiller gave me a look as if to say, "Boy, can't you see I need a little help here?!" Since I was not on staff where we met, I did not feel it necessary to oblige him. I can't tell you where it was, but I can tell you that next time I do see him, I'm going to tell him "Hi!"
Adam Arkin gave me a nod as he rushed on his way up the busy crowded street. I actually had the ungats to initiate the nodding and the smiling. Yay me!
But what sent me to the blog today was that I just saw...hubba hubba hubba... Faith The Vampire Slayer!!! On the same street I saw Adam Arkin some weeks ago. Can I tell you, she looked gooood? Nothing fancy or special. Nothing revealing or exhibitionist. No glaring make-up or anything. She was with a dude of color who looked fey to me and when I looked to see who the white chick was sharing a big smile and a laugh with him, it was HER. I about flipped.
But the deal for me is that they all look so in their own space when I spot them. My very first thought is that if I try to stop them, even to say, "Hi! I really dig your work!" they are going to twist their faces in utter aggravation at being interrupted by a stranger. Now, I may be wrong about that. I've heard many media celebs say that they 'appreciate fans' and they are 'grateful', and also that they understand what it means to be a celebrity so if they get stopped for an autograph or something, they will be kind and patient...blah blah blah. But it would just be MY luck to catch a favorite of mine on the day they got told their series is cancelled, their 3rd spouse wants a divorce, or that while they tolerate the presence of people of color, they actually think America would be so much better without them. (They could be thinking that!) I'd carry the feeling of rejection way too long if that happened to me.
What I do think I'll try to do, though, is make up a few hundred business cards with my blog address on them. Then when I make a spotting, I'm use it as an excuse to come up to them and tell them whatever, then tell them that I'm going to blog about them later that night, and would they like to stop by online and sign the guestbook?
Howzabout that idea?! I like it!
Eliza Dushku was hanging out with a brother of color. YEAH baby. And she was a little shorter than me, too. And you know, I've seen at least half a hundred women as gorgeous as Eliza in this city, so looks are obviously not what gets you in front of a camera. It must be... THAT thing THAT thing THA-AT THI-II-II-ING.
