Who IS WRITING This Stuff?!

Yesterday I had a smashing NYC kind of day. I worked at S'buck's, and found that I actually have a good shot at becoming the Rainman, as I wished. I mixed drinks for a while and started to get the hang of it. Actually, my boss said 'a monkey could do it' when she was briefing me, and she may have been right. Then she scheduled a meeting for all employees after closing so instead of coming back home, I hung around New York and spent more money that I don't have.

While hanging out, I left my phone and keys at S'bucks.

I wandered around Rockerfeller Center and marveleld at the political displas and movies they have set up toward voting. Then I walked over and had pizza near 42nd St. Then I went back down to my S'bucks neighborhood and had to sit for a while in a nice little park in the Village. Well my Forty year-old body decided I needed to do more than sit, and I promptly laid down to sleep. Yeah, I slept in a NYC park! When I woke up, I was actually refreshed! But it was still nowhere near meeting time, so I went on another little walkabout. I watched a dapper, middle class-looking white guy fish some packaged meals out of his bag for and elderly black couple on a park bench. Then I walked down Bleecker St, lost as a goose. At night you can really see the age of New York. The two-story buildings lining Bleecker gives you the feeling of having been thrown back in time 300 years. There weren't many people on the street, and those who were looked like they were coming home from Wall St. or the theater. Then I found myself walked all the way to the Bowery. They're jazzing that place up too. More mega-expensive high-rises going up. At Cooper Union Square, I found an internet/LAN place and discovered I could play City of Heroes for a nominal fee. Well, I had two hours left, and in fact, an online appointment to keep in the City of Heroes (a little superhero group I'm in called The Mondays), so instead of letting them down, as I originally figured I would do, I plunked down the rest of the money I didn't have and played my favorite game on a mega-super-kickin' hoss of a computer. We saved the day in Paragon City then I went to my store meeting.

On the way home, I checked my phone messages and discovered I got a call from a recruiter at a NJ behavioral company, a BIG one. They are hiring people with licenses on the master's level and on the doctoral level. I don't think they are hiring for therapy, but probably for screening purposes.

But now, dang! I LIKE working at Starbucks! I LIKE being in NYC, working in NYC. Yet, I'm sure this job would pay me even more money than that last job did when I was fulltime for them.

Who's WRITING this life of mine? Just when i was getting used to abject poverty, and signing up for the government dole here and there, THIS happens?

Well I called the recruiter back this morning, but she wasn't there--just like she wasn't there all the other times I called her, so maybe nothing will come of it and I'll stay on Hard-Knock Rd. for a bit. But maybe also she'll return my call today and I'll have to make a harsh decision to drop all the Starbucks energy.

What's the star of a self-titled, top-rated sitcom/drama (as I like to think of my life these days)to do?
