Now That I'm Forty...

If I'm Not A Man Now, Then I Don't Know What I AmOr to put it another way, I won my court case. This was two days ago, and the implecations are now hitting me. I proved to the judge that I meant it when I said I was willing and able to pay back the money I owed. I had documentation this time of my hourly rate and the number of hours I was assigned per week. I had worked out a payment plan which the lawyer for my landlord rejected several times, including the morning of the hearing. The lawyer's conclusion was just that I move out. The same conclusion my friends had come to. The same conclusion I had come to. But when it was finally put to me, I found that I just couldn't leave. If they could all read this blog, they'd know and maybe they'd understand. But I couldn't say, "Okay, I'll go." So the judge gave me another month to come up with the rent I owe, and like a fool, I believe I can do it. The judge wants me to borrow from friends and family, because she thought I couldn't do it, as did the landlord's lawyers. Nothing like a good fight to make you 'man up'. So, I'm rising to this occasion. I'm going to hunt down these kids I'm assigned to and make time to see them when they're available. I'm not going to take no for an answer this time. I'm going to find ways to get them to talk to me, and me to them. I've got books to study. I've got an agenda. What's more, I have my NY license to process. And I've been promised that I'll be a healthcare provider by June 1st (that's next week!) and my clientele will increase in the private practice. (There's some of my naivete sneaking through, but this was a credentialling agent who's telephone number I have to keep checking the process until they GIVE IT UP.) So, I think I can do this. It's not lifelong, but it'll get me current on my rent and hold me over until I'm a full time, sit-down-in-a-room therapist. And how much sweeter will the victory taste when it happens? VERY. :-)
